It was back to work this week for the Coyotes, with numerous games in the books after a break because of the weather but it proved to be an eventful one for the squad with a big win on the road on Tuesday night after taking second at the North Hopkins Varsity Tournament over the weekend.

Anna will play their last game before the Christmas break on Friday night at home against Aubrey.

Anna 71,

Caddo Mills 43

The Coyotes proved to be the bigger dog on Tuesday night when they mauled the Foxes on their home turf, jumping out to a big lead early on their way to a 71-43 win.

Adriun Harrison led the pack with 22 points, dominating the game from both inside and outside the paint. Freshman Keamoni Mattocks lit up the net, hitting four three-point shots and finished the game with 14.

In the opening quarter, Mattocks knocked down a trey to give Anna an 8-2 advantage and Jeff Muchai hit a jumper to give Anna a nine point lead and force a Caddo Mills time out. Anna led 16-6 later in the quarter but the Foxes were able to make a run and cut that lead in half before the end of the first.

Mattocks opened up the second with another big shot from down town and then a Brennan White knocked down a shot to continue the Coyote run. White was the third Coyote scorer in double figures, finishing the game with 10 points.

Another Mattocks long-ball put the Coyotes up by 10 and before the end of the first half Anna was ahead 33-20.

Harrison and Dylan Duncan had were strong in the third quarter to help Anna maintain their lead but the Coyotes were able to close strong, with a 23-10 fourth quarter to put the game away. Anna was up 19 to force a Caddo Mills timeout and then White completed a traditional three-point play to put the Coyotes up by 24 on their way to the 28 point victory.

Other Anna scorers included: Ben Ramos (6), Jeff Muchai (6), Chase Henson (5), Dylan Duncan (4) and Elijah Smith (4).

North Hopkins Varsity Tournament

Harrison and Mattocks were named to all tournament team as the Coyotes put together a strong performance that led them to the championship championship bracket. Anna started the tourney by winning their first four games.

On Thursday, Anna took down Mt. Vernon 50-33 and then decimated Hughes Springs 45-18. Anna got a big 54-35 win over North Hopkins on Friday and Harrison and Ramon had 10 each to help Anna get a 55-45 win over Cooper.

On Saturday, Harrison and Ramon had 10 each but it wasn’t enough as Anna fell to Miller Grove in overtime. The Coyotes then fell 55-43 to North Hopkins despite 15 points from Harrison and nine from Mattocks.
