It was a tough first first half of district play for the Coyotes but the second half started with a shocking win at Princeton earlier in the week. Anna will have a bye on Friday night and will then play host to Melissa on Tuesday, the Coyotes looking to jump start their playoff chances.
Anna 68, Princeton 61
Anna took an early 2-0 lead with a Jeff Muchai rebound and put-back and never looked back on the way to a surprising win in Princeton on Jan. 28. The Coyotes never trailed and were able to build a 21-point advantage going into the final quarter as they held on to win, 68-61.
Muchai scored the first four points of the game for Anna but Princeton fought back, tying the score at 8-all before a bucket from freshman Elijah Smith helped Anna regain the lead. At the end of the first, Keamoni Mattocks knocked down a trey to help Anna take a 13-10 lead.
Mattocks hit another three to start the second, and buckets from Adriun Harrison and Brennan White helped Anna maintain its lead. Alex Scheidt hit a shot at the end of the first half to give the Coyotes a six-point advantage.
Harrison led the team with 19 points in the contest, and Mattocks and Muchai added 16 points each to help the Coyotes’ effort. The three were especially active in the third quarter as Anna had its best showing of the night with 23 points while holding Princeton to just eight.
Harrison continued to play strong with a rebound and put-back and then a steal that he took to the bucket. The attention the Panthers were paying to him allowed Mattocks to get open in the corner for a three. Harrison followed up with his own trey to put Anna up 20 points.
Princeton attempted to rally but its efforts were too little, too late as Anna held on to get the much-needed road win. Other Anna scorers included: White (6), Alex Scheidt (5), Elijah Smith (4) and Chase Henson (2).

Bonham 51, Anna 39
It was the third quarter that killed the Coyotes again when Anna took on Bonham Jan. 17. It was the second consecutive game that Anna was held to just two points in the third period in a winnable game.
Bonham got off to a strong start, winning the opening period 12-7 and then building a 10-point advantage by the end of the first half.
Anna was outscored 12-2 in the third quarter and then tried to fight back into the game late. However, its 19-11 run in the fourth was not enough to erase the deficit and the Warriors were able to get the win.
Harrison led the team in scoring and was the only Coyote in double figures as he finished the game with 15. Mattocks added nine for Anna and Smith had eight. Other Anna scorers included: Smith (8), White (5) and Duncan (2).
