With nearly 80 players on the field for practices for the past two weeks, the Anna Coyotes are looking forward to the chance to knock helmets with players from a different school. Two-a-day practices are winding down just as Anna gets set to take on Ponder in the first of two organized scrimmages this pre-season.
The match-up will take place in Ponder on Saturday morning.
"We have been pleased with second week (of practice) so far," Anna Head Coach Jason Heath said. "We have been getting a lot of little things corrected both offensively and defensively. We have started working in more special teams into practice this week."
Last week’s practice player of the week was freshman Donald Maloid, and Heath said that he showed up each day with "a great attitude and gave phenomenal effort throughout drills."
Anna will line up against Ponder on Saturday looking to give Coyote players, refreshingly, a new opponent less than two weeks before their season opener.
"Against Ponder, we want to see our kids compete and give great effort," Heath said. "We want to see how players handle themselves against a different opponent than themselves and be able to make adjustments."
Anna will play host to Canton in the final scrimmage of the year on Aug. 23, before opening up its season against Dallas Life on August 30 — the first week of school.
