The Melissa Cardinals are primed and ready to take the field this week against an opponent — an actual opponent, not one they share a locker room with, though the Cardinal logo will get plenty of exposure.

The Cardinals of Melissa will compete in their first organized, competitive scrimmage of the season on Friday night against the Cardinals of Pottsboro.

"The second week of practice has been great," Head Coach Seth Stinton said. "It will be good for us to scrimmage someone other than ourselves. We need to keep on improving each week to help prepare us for district."

The Cardinals will travel to Aubrey the following Thursday for their last scrimmage of the year before they play a repeat of last years season opener against Celina at Allen High School on Thursday, Aug. 29.
