The Anna cross country teams traveled to Denton Sept. 28 for the Ken Garland-Northwest HS Cross Country Meet at the University of North Texas Golf Course. The girls squad had two runners finish in the top 25 and the team placed fourth overall, while Ben Ramos finished in the top 20 on the boys side.
"The boys ran well this past weekend in Denton," Anna coach Kelley Pitzer said. "Although most of them had never run the course previously, the outcome was beneficial. The boys have done a great job of working hard in training to prepare them for the district meet, which is approaching quickly."
Ramos received a medal with the time of 18:06 and a total finish of 19th place. The team’s other runners — Trenton Herke, Dylan Hargett and Avery Adame — all finished with faster times than their previous best times of the season.
The fifth runner, Thomas Finn, had to step out of the race due to a medical condition, but plans to compete at the next meet.
"The boys are poised to compete well at the upcoming meets and at our district competition," Pitzer said.
The Lady Coyote varsity team finished in fourth place out of 19 teams.
The Lady Coyote runners are listed with their places out of 152 runners: Jordan Miller (15), Itzia Naranjo (21), Paige Lehrmann (27), Dannie Garcia (37), Raye Moran (38), Autumn Spaeth (61) and Amanda Griffith (98).
"All the young ladies put forth a good effort," Anna coach Hoot Jones said. "The running conditions were ideal as the temperature was very comfortable."
The JV division had a total of 180 contestants and finished as follows: Francis Naranjo (21), Ally Woodruff (68), Taylor Hellums (82), Ruth Rodriguez (94) and Molley Lisner (166).
The teams will compete over the Oct. 5 weekend at the FCA Invitational in Celina.
