The Melissa powerlifting squad had two girls receive medals at the Sunnyvale Invitational on Jan. 25. The meet included several Class 4A and 5A schools such as Rockwall Heath, Royse City and North Garland.
Priscilla Adejokun won her second gold medal of the season with a 765-pound total. She squatted 300 pounds, benched 130 and dead lifted 335 pounds.
Brianna Bradshaw finished fourth with a 680 total, setting her personal best. Bridie Burchett finished with 415, an improvement of 50 pounds from her previous best.
The next meet for the girls will be Feb. 6 at S&S.
The boys team from Melissa also saw several impressive performances against tough competition. Austin Reese paced the Cardinals with an 1,160-pound total. Jordan Fortner increased his career best total by 100 lbs with a 995 total, while. Hunter Montoya finished with 950 total. Max Castillo turned in a total of 935, along with Matt Kusano at 870 and Cole English at 820.
Every lifter improved from their total from the previous meet. The boys compete at S&S on Feb. 8.
