With the old Anna ISD Middle School now home to the early Childhood Learning Center campus, with more than 300 pre-K and kindergarten students, there will be significant changes on Sherley Avenue with the start of the new school year on Monday.
To start off with, Sherley Avenue has been designated a school zone with a 20 mph speed limit.
And to make traffic safer in that area, Sherley Avenue will now be a one-way street during the schools drop-off and pick-up hours: 7:15 to 8 a.m., 10:30 a.m. to noon and 2:30 to 3:15 p.m.
Traffic will not be allowed to go north on Sherley Avenue from FM 455 (White Street) on school days during school zone hours. Drivers will need to use 4th Street to get to Sherley Avenue and proceed south to the campus.
While FM 455, Sherley Avenue and 7th Street, along with surrounding areas, will be very crowded with the start of the school year, driving will become even more challenging when the FM 455 road widening project by TxDOT begins in September.
Drivers are cautioned to be alert, watch out for children, use good judgment and above all be courteous and patient.
