With a record-low turnout of only 61 voters there was no winner in Anna’s special election on Saturday. The election was being held to fill City Council’s vacant Place 6 seat.
None of the four candidates on the ballot received 50 percent of votes as required by the city charter.
Dick Dowd was the top vote-getter, receiving 25 votes (41 percent. ) In second place was Tiffany Burleson with 21 votes (34 percent) followed by Justin Burr with 9 votes (15 percent) and in last place was Rachel Alvarez with 6 votes (10 percent).
According to Anna City Secretary Natha Wilkison, the city will hold a runoff election in July between Dick Dowd and Tiffany Burleson with the election date yet to be announced.
Council’s Place 6 seat has been vacant since April 9 when council member Becky Glover resigned. Glover gave up her spot on Council due to employment reasons — she was relocated to to Vancouver, Wash.
