Anna High School’s Beta Club attended the annual Texas Senior Beta Convention hosted in Dallas over the Jan. 11 weekend to compete against other Texas high
schools in a variety of events.
In addition to the academic competition there was an election for state officers in which a school presented a candidate to run for one office. Chosen by her fellow Anna Betas, junior Dannie Garcia ran for Texas vice-president. Her peers dressed in a Gryffindor House uniform to support Garcia’s Harry Potter-themed campaign.
Betas attending convention also performed in the group talent competition with a song from the musical Parade, "The Funeral Sequence." AHS junior Taylor Lawrence sang the lead, backed up by a chorus of "mourners."
"Although we didn’t place, I’m very pleased with everyone’s performance. We still got really good scores and positive comments from Betas from other schools," said Lawrence.
The past week was also busy for Anna High School’s theatre department. Due to the ice storm during the first semester, the day performances of Once on This Island were rescheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. On top of going over musical numbers and lines for these performances, the newly-announced One Act Play cast hit the ground running with rehearsals starting the first day of the semester.
In a collaboration with the Anna High School English department, The Anna-Melissa Tribune is proudly publishing articles written by AHS students for their community.
