Held Saturday, the Melissa Celebration of Freedom on Saturday was a festive, fun-filled event that was extremely well attended by young and old.

The parade stepped off at five in the afternoon, led by the city’s police and fire vehicles, lights flashing and sirens wailing, followed by cars, floats and those walking and on horseback. By six in the evening, Zadow Park was full of area residents. Kids were playing games, the bounce houses were rockin’ and rollin’, craft and information vendors were busy, music echoed throughout the park and, of course, there were lots of good eats.

It was a traditional small town America’s birthday party as neighbors, friends and total strangers socialized under shade trees and waited for the traditional fireworks show.

The Celebration of Freedom was hosted by the City of Melissa and the Melissa Area Chamber of Commerce.
