What’s happening at the library:

Story time in the Melissa Public Library is on Fridays from 10:15-11 a.m.

— July 26 – Scouts, history buffs and story time kids, come to story time and see the treasures found at the historical dig at the Wysong blacksmith shop in our community. Mr. Page and Ms. Diane will show us how they find these items and what pieces and parts and whole things have been dug up. Then come look at them in the display cabinet in the library for the next two month.

— August 2-3 are guys and their picks. Three young men from Anna will bring a guitar, mandolin and a banjo and show us some fine tunes.

Happy Birthday to your Melissa Public Library. The anniversary dates for a number of 20-year events marking the start of the Melissa Public Library are coming up through the end of next year. If you would like to help plan and make things happen for the celebrations, contact Lorelei Perkins before Aug. 3 at librarian@cityofmelissa.com to represent an organization or as a community member and you can be a part of the planning committee.

Watch for more news from the Friends of the Melissa Public Library. At the July 16 general meeting, President Bobbye Fisher, Vice-President Bryan Zumbar and Secretary Valerie Enoch were re-elected for two year terms, by-laws were updated and a library review/preview/discussion was enjoyed with the ice cream social. FOMPL makes a difference for the Melissa Public Library.

Three more weeks of summer reading. Your reading logs must be in by Friday, August 9, so you can celebrate your success on Saturday, August 10 at 11a.m. Everyone reading 500 minutes will receive a certificate and a bag of goodies. Also, keep on reading 20 minutes a day and when you get 100 minutes come in every week for a trinket or treasure. What a great year this has been! Mrs. Perkins will get your sheet to your school for recognition there, also.

Start Clickin’! The 3rd Annual Friends of the Melissa Public Library Photography Contest is just around the corner.
