Story time in the Melissa Public Library is held on Fridays from 10:15-11 a.m. During the summer months, we are planning for story time to include activities that may interest elementary-age children as well, so feel free to bring your 6-10-year-olds.
o June 14 – Father’s Day. We have our city "Dad," Mayor Reed Greer, coming to read to us and make our own dads something fun.
o June 21 – Dairy Day. Come out and learn about cows and milk products. There will be a special guest.
o June 28 – Parade Day. Get ready for the Celebration of Freedom and the 4th of July.
Friends of the Melissa Public Library (FOMPL) is the greatest support we have. Their advocacy keeps the activities and opportunities pouring out to you, our community of library lovers. The Friends of the Melissa Public Library meet at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month (Jan. to Oct.) at the Melissa Public Library. The next board meeting is June 11 and the next general meeting for the public is July 16. Come support our good supporters. Officer elections for next year are coming up, so be there to volunteer.
Hola! We are continuing our free beginning Spanish class for native English speakers on the second and fourth Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the City Hall Community Room all summer. Our next classes will be June 12 and 26. Though our regular instructors will not be there, several students and friends will be meeting to practice their language skills. If you are interested in learning and conversing, come walk in and join us in the community room. If you have taken Spanish in your high school classes, come chat and keep up your skills.
¡Hola!

Pre-registration encouraged to ensure handouts, but walk-ins are welcome. Email firstname.lastname@example.org. Starting Thursday, June 13, 20 and 27, you will meet from 6:15-7:45 p.m. to put together your pedigree charts and family group sheets.
Our guest reader, Mary Brooke Casad, is coming to kickoff the 2013 Melissa Library summer reading program. Come to the Melissa Library on Saturday, June 15 at 11 a.m. to hear Casad share her stories about Bluebonnet, the traveling armadillo. Bluebonnet explores Texas landmarks and makes new friends. Then, come to the Melissa Library lobby for some great, free activities and crafts. Finally, stay for our June free movie, "Rise of the Guardians," to be shown in the comfort and coolness of the city council chambers (no food or drink in there.) Pick up your summer reading logs (also available online) and start reading and earning weekly prizes. This family time is going to be a lot of free fun.
Wacky Wednesdays: Watch the weekly Wednesday schedule for some wonderful, wild and w-w-w-w- (enough of the W’s!) things for kids 10 years old to 17 years old. If you are wondering what to do this summer, come over to the library between 1-3 p.m. each week starting June 12. We will show some kid’s choice movies (you have to be there to vote for the next week’s showing.) Other weeks, we will do some crafts (does anyone know how to make some bead bracelets and be willing to help us?) It is too hot to swim at that time, so come inside and have fun in the middle of each week. Watch for more to come.
