It was an extremely packed house on Saturday night as the Melissa Education Foundation hosted its beloved Donkey Basketball event to a sold out crowd of nearly 800 people. Four teams — one from each school campus — made up of teachers and principals competed for the championship. Ultimately, it was the Harry Mckillop Elementary team that beat out the Melissa High School team 4-2 to take home the trophy. Prior to the game, MEF hosted a chili cookoff with first place going to the father-daughter team of Ellie and Kyle Thompson, second place to Paul, Paige and Erin Anderson and third place to Kent and Cassie Norwood.
"I would like to thank our title sponsor, Unleashed Spiritwear and team sponsors Chucks Wagon BBQ, George James, IPG, Lacore Powersports and Tracy Pounders Law Firm. It was a fun community event and a successful fundraiser for MEF raising almost $6,000," said MEF Executive Director Kellie Maynard, "but the most rewarding was watching the children charging the court to congratulate their teachers!"
