"The first arrest of the new year was for public intoxication," said Anna Police Sgt. Jeff Caponera. Shortly after midnight on Jan. 1, a driver from Scury was found passed out in his vehicle on U.S. 75.

On Sunday, Jan. 5, Desoto resident Joseph Saliza, 32, was arrested for possession of marijuana when he was found sleeping in his vehicle on U.S.75 near Mantua Road.

On Saturday, Jan. 4, officers responded to the 2800 and 2900 blocks of Pecan Grove regarding motor vehicle burglaries.

"It appears someone went through the neighborhood and stole items from two pickups," said Caponera.

Friday, Jan. 3, kept officers busy with three reported incidents.

Officers recovered a stolen trailer which was parked in the old Drivers Travel Mart lot. "The recovered value of the trailer and the contents was $49,000," explained Caponera. The truck was also reported stolen but has not been located.

Officers responded to the 1700 block of Central Expressway on a vehicle burglary call. Unknown persons entered the vehicle and stole a license plate that was lying on the floor of the car.

And officers investigated a theft of a firearm in the 1500 block of Red Oak. "Someone stole a gun, however it was not a burglary since there was no forced entry into the home and the homeowner indicated that an acquaintance may have taken the firearm," said Caponera.

On Friday, Dec. 27, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Fifth Street on a domestic disturbance call. Corbin McManus, 24, was arrested for assaulting his grandfather. The grandfather was transported to a hospital with broken ribs and a punctured lung.

"McManus is still in jail," said Caponera.
