The November meeting of the Anna ISD Board of Trustees started on an upbeat note with a number of recognitions.
Board President Ty Chapman and Assistant Superintendent Thomas O’Neal recognized Teachers of the Month, Caught in the Act honorees and the Employees of the Month for October and November.
Teachers of the Month were Emily Burk and Melissa Allen from the high school, Sheryl Harlow and Sandra Barrett from the middle school, Kate Gilmore and Jennifer Ashley from Bryant Elementary, Jennifer Price and Mary Lewis from Rattan Elementary and Amy Hector and Heather Boykin from Early Childhood Center.
The district’s long-standing Caught in the Act tradition recognizes district personnel who are doing something "above and beyond the call of duty." Honored were Tamara Powell and Alejandro Martinez from the high school, Pam Balak and Miguel Diaz Sifonte from the middle school, Shirley Beazley and Dawn Redwine from Bryant Elementary, Shelly Biens and Keri Davis from Rattan Elementary and Michelle Coursey and Viola Flanery from Early Childhood Center.
Billy Sharp and Melissa Taylor were named Employees of the Month.
"This is a small way to say thank you", said O’Neal. We would not be the district that we are without your help."
Board member Larissa Thornburg was recognized for completing the TASB Leadership Course. In presenting the award, Superintendent Larry Johnson said that "this is one of the strongest leadership programs in the country," and commended Thornburg for her hard work and dedication going through the program.
The board heard a presentation by Brian Grubbs of Southwest Securities regarding a bond refunding opportunity. Following the presentation the board authorized the issuance of the refunding bonds.
The 2013 tax roll and property tax levy of $8,478,741.20 as provided by Collin County Tax Assessor was approved by the board.
The board authorized to cast their votes for Tiffany Burleson, joining the City of Anna in their similar vote, for the Central Appraisal District of Collin County Board of Directors.
