The Anna High School Band performed in the UIL Region 25 Concert Sight-reading Competition on Feb. 28 and was awarded with its fourth consecutive University Interscholastic League sweepstakes trophy. The second and third period bands earned a first division rating from UIL judges in both the concert and sight reading categories.
A sweepstakes trophy is awarded to band programs which receive first division ratings in marching band, concert band, and sight reading. Anna High School’s marching program received a first division rating in the Fall, which qualified the music program for its fourth consecutive sweepstakes trophy.
The second period band received top ratings of 1 from all three UIL judges in the sight reading and concert performance categories with its performances of "Basses on a Rampage" by Huffine, " In Footsteps of Legends" by Barber and "Fantasy on an Early American Marching Tune" by Sheldon.
The third period band earned a 1-1-2 rating in concert and an all 1 rating in sight reading with performances of "Plains West March" by Owens, "Abracadabra" by Ticheli and "La Madre de Los Gatos" by Beck.
"I am extremely proud of the bands. They performed at high levels and represented Anna well. I would also like to thank Curtis McCarthy for his part in helping to prepare for these performances," said Anna High School Band Director Chris Burk.
