Kenneth Ray Cowan
WESTON — Kenneth Ray Cowan of Weston, Texas passed away on April 19, 2017 at the age of 87. He was born February 14, 1930 to Troy W. and Myrtle Cowan of Weston, Texas. Kenneth married Mary Sue Thomas on July 1, 1961 in Kemp, Texas. He was a member of the United States Army, from 1947-1951. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Celina No. 919 for 50+ years, and also a member of Hella Shrine. He served as Fire Chief, Mayor, and President of the Water Board for the City of Weston for nearly 40 years. He fulfilled his lifelong dream of working at Cowan’s Garage, his father’s service station in Weston, getting married, raising a family, and serving his community.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Mary Sue; children, Shannon Burns and husband, Tim, of Celina, Texas; Rhonda Cowan of Frisco, Texas; and April Barclay and husband, Bruce, of Celina, Texas. He was blessed with many grandchildren, Stephanie Needum and husband, Andrew; Taylor Burns, Parker Burns, McKenna Burns, Gracie Greggains, Lydia Barclay, Preslie Burns, and Braden Barclay. He was also blessed by his great-grandchildren, Colten, Cash, Ellie, Paisley, and Jace. He has been wonderfully cared for by Tammy Clark for the past year and a half.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Troy W. and Myrtle Cowan; and his sister, Laverne Gattis, and brother, Bill Cowan.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 22, 2017 at First Baptist Church Weston, with Bro. Jim Poole and Chaplain Mike Hermann officiating. Interment is to follow at Cottage Hill Cemetery in Celina, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne, Texas.
