The city of Melissa hosted the Celebration of Freedom on Saturday. While many area city’s are preparing for Fourth of July events, Melissa Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bill Jones said this celebration is for freedom and also for veterans.
“This is an event that honors our veterans and the freedom they have provided us throughout time,” he said.
Jones said the city of Melissa has done this celebration for many years, and it gets bigger and better every time.
“The 2018 Celebration of Freedom was a huge success for the Melissa Area Chamber of Commerce,” Jones said. “We had a better variety of vendors, a great band, and a fabulous fireworks display.”
The turnout was phenomenal for this annual event, Jones said.
“We had a great crowd to enjoy all the festivities,” he said. “This was the 10th Anniversary of the Celebration of Freedom.”
Celebration of Freedom parade that began at 10 a.m. The parade proceeded down Cardinal Lane and afternoon festivities commenced at 5:30 p.m. in Zadow Park off of Hwy 5.
The event was kicked off with a National Anthem sang by Kenzie Warren and Emma Piyakhun.
For the evening fun, guests enjoyed music by the Blue Moon Band, and there were various vendors for them. The night ended with a fireworks presentation at 9:30 p.m.”
Jones said he wanted to thank all of the sponsors; they made the event possible.

The patriot sponsors consisted of Cross My Heart and Hope for Pie, Physical Therapy of Melissa and Provision Automotive.”
