Back in January, Lieutenant Jeff Caponera was named interim police chief of the Anna Police Department. One of Caponera’s goals was building a good relationship between the police department and the community, so he sought to start a monthly networking opportunity.

Greater Anna Chamber of Commerce Director Kevin Hall said Caponera approached him with the idea, and Hall ran with it.

“Anna Police Chief Jeff Caponera approached the Anna Chamber in an effort to help our Police Department connect deeper with our community by way of ‘Coffee with Anna Cops,’” Hall said. “Chief Caponera asked if I could reach out to a few chamber members to get their feedback on hosting this event once a month. We had positive responses and already have enough locations to last through the end of 2018.”

On Friday, Feb. 9, Caponera hosted the first ‘Coffee with a Cop’ mingling event. “The first Coffee with a Cop event went very well,” Caponera said. “We had a good showing of support from residents, business owners and the school district.”

Caponera said he was very thankful for all the help from the community for the first ‘Coffee with a Cop.’ “I would like to thank Donald Nutt, Brookshire’s store manager, for graciously hosting the first event at Java Jams,” Caponera said. “His is one of many businesses in Anna that have agreed to provide the coffee and location for our events.”

This was the first of many more to come, Caponera said. “We will continue to have ‘Coffee with a Cop’ events every month on the second Friday from 7a.m. to 9a.m. We encourage people to come out and join us,” Caponera said. “This is an informal event that gives citizens a vehicle to voice their concerns, bring forward ideas or just chat with officers to get to know the people behind the badge.”

Hall said anybody and everybody are welcomed at the ‘Coffee with a Cop.’ “The public, as well as, our chamber members are welcome to join us on the second Friday of each month for ‘Coffee with Anna Cops,’” Hall said. “Our Police Department wants to be an active part of our community, not only when we require their professional services. We appreciate Chief Caponera letting the Anna Chamber and our members be involved in this event.”

Hall said the chamber and police department welcome any business wanting to host an event. “Any Anna business that is interested in hosting or sponsoring one of these meet ups please reach out to our Anna Chamber by calling 972-924-8533,: he said.

“Next month’s event is March 9 and will be hosted by our friends at the Texas Star Bank, 402 W. White Street. We hope to see you there,” Caponera said.
