The Melissa High School and Melissa Middle School winterguard programs competed Saturday at the North Texas Colorguard Association (NTCA) Winterguard Contest at Lamar High School.
This is the first year in school history that Melissa Middle School has had a colorguard program. Already, the colorguard has performed at middle school pep rallies and has spun the fight song at football games alongside the high school colorguard.
Saturday’s competition marked another first for the middle school as the colorguard competed for the first time in the cadet class; a classification exclusively for middle schools. Melissa Middle School took first place in the competition ahead of middle schools from Flowermound, Keller, and McKinney.
The Melissa Middle School colorguard competes next at Chisholm Trail High School on Friday, Feb. 23.
