The Melissa Independent School District recognized the latest Wall of Honor inductee, Tony Williams, on Friday, Oct. 27 prior to the football game at Melissa High School. Duke Sparks presented Tony Williams with the award, as his family showed up for support.
The Melissa Schools Wall of Honor distinguishes altruistic, high achieving individuals with a significant history. Williams is the sixth individual to be inducted since the program’s inception in 2016.
Williams’ nominator wrote, “Tony may have moved to Melissa because of the winning environment, but he created the infectious attitude of ‘Team Melissa’ that lives in our community today.”
Williams served on the board for the Melissa Booster Club from 2008 to 2012. He was instrumental in renaming the high school gym “The Bird Cage” and creating the “RED RED” cheer that is still used today. Williams financially supported the boosters to help fund new uniforms, a new tunnel, band instruments and other expenditures.
In addition to being recognized at the football game, Williams will be featured on the Wall of Honor in the main hallway at the Melissa Schools Home Office.
