On Saturday, Sept. 30, the Anna High School Jazz Band sent 11 students to audition for the ATSSB Region 24 Jazz Band. Five of those students earned a spot in the Jazz Band, and four earned a high enough spot to advance to the area round of auditions. The students that earned a spot in the All-Region Jazz Band were Reid McGowan (trumpet), Mark Medina (advanced to area on trumpet), Ariana Guillermo (advanced to area on trumpet), Sebastian Boyer (advanced to area on drums) and Dylan Stepherson (advanced to area on alto saxophone).
Two-time All-State Jazz Band member Dylan Stepherson also earned first chair in both the Baritone and Tenor Saxophone auditions, completing a first chair “sweep.” Since Dylan could only choose one instrument for area — and having previously made the All-State Jazz band on Tenor and Baritone Saxophone — he chose alto saxophone in an attempt to be the first ATSSB All-State Musician to make the All-State Jazz band on each of the three saxophones.
Results from the area auditions should come out sometime in late November. This year was a record year for the Anna High School Jazz band, sending more students to audition and having more students earn a spot than ever before.
