The Greater Anna Chamber of Commerce is hosting a 5K and 1K fun run on September 1. Proceeds from the event will go towards benefitting the Greater Anna Chamber of Commerce and Breaking Free Texas.

Kevin Hall, Executive Director of the GACC, said Breaking Free Texas is a non-profit organization. “It is a non-profit in Anna that provides a free one-year residential addiction program, local addiction, crisis counseling and leadership training school for those 18-years of age and older,” Hall said.

Breaking Free is a Christian based organization that assists young men struggling with addiction, according to its website. The program is a minimum of 13 months, with a focus of treating men between the ages of 17-25.

While in the program, the men are taught a trade, whether it is horticulture, construction, welding, landscaping or mechanics. This enables the men to have a trade to use once they are done. BFT offers the program at no charge to the men or their families that are involved in the family recovery class. GED classes are also offered.

BFT offers available beds for any second and third year of leadership training to any graduates of the addiction program. The men in this program are developed into Christian leaders in the community. This is a very hard and intense process for the student, the website states.

Classes for the families also affected by addiction are available during weekend visitations. BFT said they feel it is crucial to bring restoration to the entire family.
