The First Baptist Church of Van Alstyne (FBCVA) will be commencing two 13-week long events in early September. On Sunday September 10, the church Grief Share event begins, while Tuesday September 12 marks the start of Divorce Care.

According to the FBCVA deacon Allan Chambers, Grief Share is a non-denominational, biblically-based program organized to minister people who have lost loved ones. The program is structured as a seminar or small group support program, with all 13 sessions being free of charge.

Grief Share meetings will be taught by Jack Washington and held each Sunday afternoon at 2 in the FBCVA portable buildings. Chambers stated that missing a session will not be disruptive, since each meeting is designed to be self-contained.

“The 13-week video based program features respected Christian experts sharing their insight and wisdom on topics important to people in grief,” Chambers wrote.

The seminar also offers a $15 workbook that corresponds to the videos.

Divorce Care is a similarly structured program, according to Chambers, that will be held at 6:30 on Tuesday evenings at the FBCVA portable buildings in order to assist those going through the pain of divorce. A $15 workbook will also be available to session members, and Jack Washington will lead the session as well.

Both sessions are free of charge, with free childcare offered Interested people can call the FBCVA office at 903-482-6334 or register online at www.fbcva.com. Links for both Grief Share and Divorce Care are available on the home page under “Ministries.”

The First Baptist Church of Van Alstyne is located at 121 E. Marshall St. Both seminars have been held at the church for several years.
