U.S. Highway 75 and FM 455 has been under construction for almost two years now. The tentative date for completion was late April. However, that date has come and gone. The new tentative date for completion is mid-June.

The construction had a few setbacks along the way. Back in March, there were issues installing the piers and trying to find alternative routes around the gas lines, Texas Department of Transportation officials said. The newest obstacles were building the “leave outs” in the bridge.

“When you build a bridge, there are sections you have to ‘leave out’ so you have room to stage the cranes needed to build,” Michelle Releford with TxDOT said. “Then you have to go back and build the leave outs by hand. Hand work on paving takes longer.”

The construction crews are currently paving Slayter and grinding the pavement for a smoother ride. In the next few weeks, the crews will be scheduling the striping, switching the traffic signals and moving the traffic to its final configuration.
