Collin County Commissioner Chris Hill led a presentation that focused on the growth of Collin County at the Multi-Chamber Luncheon on March 21 at Hurricane Creek Country Club in Anna.

Hill said he is pleased with the growth of Collin County, but also knows the growth needs careful planning.

“Collin County has been blessed with sustained economic development and opportunity for the past several years, and we have every indication that this pattern will continue in the future,” Hill said. “But our rapidly expanding population also presents unique challenges that must be addressed with intentionality and wise planning.”

Hill said that Collin County has seen a 75 percent rise in the property tax base in the past 10 years, but a 13 percent decrease in the property tax rate. Collin County has the lowest property tax rate among all of the 254 counties across Texas. The Commissioners Court recently adopted a resolution in support of Senate Bill 2, the Texas Property Tax Reform and Relief Act – lowering the rollback rate from 8 percent to 4 percent, and creating a Property Tax Advisory Board that will reside at the Comptroller’s office.

The growth in Collin County has been astounding with an annual increase of over 30,000, Hill said in his presentation. He said with the increase comes the need for road improvements.

“The Collin County Commissioners Court remains intently focused on infrastructure planning and transportation development,” Hill said. “There will certainly be growing pains as we work to expand our transportation network, but the consequences of inaction are severe. Doing nothing is a failure of leadership, and is simply not an option.”

The current strategic priorities are US 390, the outer loop between Dallas North Tollway and Highway 75, State Highway 78, and a new North-South corridor east of Highway 75.

The Greater Anna Chamber of Commerce hosts a luncheon once a month to give the members and business owners a chance to mingle and let residents know what the businesses have to offer. The Chambers that attend these are Anna, Van Alstyne, Melissa and Howe to give the members and citizens a chance to get to know each other.
