Students and teachers at Melissa schools celebrated Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss’ birthday on Thursday, March 2.
Guest readers visited classrooms at Harry McKillop Elementary to read books to students; a joint project between the school and the Melissa public library. Students also had the opportunity to read individually in their classroom and at the school library.
Throughout the day on Twitter and Facebook, Melissa Independent School District shared videos of students and teachers discussing the importance of reading, why they love to read and some of their favorite books, as part of Melissa ISD’s Reading Initiative. Teachers also shared reading photos from the classroom under #Read2Grow on Twitter.
Melissa High School students will continue Read Across America on Friday with “drop everything and read.”
