On Nov. 6 West Crossing, a residential community in Anna, held a special Veterans Day event to honor Anna veterans at the West Crossing Amenity Center. Anna Mayor Mike Crist presented each veteran in attendance with a certificate of thanks for their service to the country. The event included patriotic music, and the American Legion of Anna came out and presented the flags from each branch of military and lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
Each veteran was presented with a gift from the West Crossing Social committee, which consisted of gift cards and coupons from local businesses that were donated to the veterans. Texas Roadhouse donated lunch for the day, Taylor Made Heat donated drinks and NothingBundtCakes donated cake for dessert.
Close to 40 veterans in the West Crossing neighborhood were able to chat with one another about the time they spent in service. One of these veterans has two Purple Hearts, one has a Purple Heart and many have served in Vietnam, Iraq and Desert Storm.
“(It was) such a wonderful, patriotic event for all that attended,” West Crossing Social Committee Chair Candy Holden said in an email. “… It was such an honor to host this event for our veterans and show them how much we appreciate them.”
