A Melissa development currently in the works will combine retail areas with senior living.
The Gala at Melissa is a private senior living community that will be set on 35 acres between FM 545 and Highway 121, just west of CVS Pharmacy.
The development will include 93 independent residences for seniors 55 and older, and will cost an estimated $16 million to build.
The community is being developed by Gardner Capital Development, who was awarded more than a million dollars in affordable tax credits from the state.
John Palmer, the vice president Gardner, said the community will provide a resort style of living for seniors in the area.
“The city really deserves an asset for their aging community,” he said.
The community is the first of its kind in Melissa for seniors and will provide them with affordable mixed-income housing.
Construction on the community is set to begin early next year and is expected to be completed in 2018.
Gardner is currently building a senior living community at Craig Ranch in McKinney. Their main offices are located in Springfield, Mo., and have offices in 15 different states.
