Students in the Melissa Middle School band program were among hundreds of musicians from 20 area schools who recently auditioned for a spot in the ATSSB Region 24 All-Region Band, and a record 33 students from the middle school band program earned a chair.
This is the highest number of students to make All-Region Band in the school’s history, and Melissa Middle School students hold 20 percent of the total region band spots, which is the most for any school. In addition, 60 percent of the school’s wind ensemble were selected to play with this prestigious group.
All 33 students will attend a two-day clinic in January at Clark Junior High School in Princeton and perform in free concert for the public at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14 at Princeton High School.
Melissa Middle School All-Region Band students include Audrey Coloumbe, Riley McCready, Anna Sirota, and Daria Stepanova on flute; Mika Hill on principal oboe; Thomas Baxley on principal bassoon; Brianne Finnell on principal clarinet; Madison Courtney, Ellie Jones, and Kayla Piyakhun on clarinet; Rylei Johnson on principal bass clarinet; Brandt Brunson, Bella Giannantonio, and Will Maberry on alto sax; Rebekah Bayless, Bailey Butler, Judson Greer, Jordan King, Carson Ross, Brandon Shadman, Eli Tenney, and Lydia Thompson on trumpet; Elijah Bayless, Kendall Meziere-Abbott, Elizabeth Shuping, Makenna Miles on french horn; Kaycee Fender, Chase McDaniel, and Connor Sale on trombone; Rayven Hathorn on euphonium; Blake Carrico on tuba; and Jack Griset and Grace Moothart on percussion. In addition, there were two first alternates: Korbin Barham on tenor sax and Nolan Demory on bari sax.
