Game Recap -- Sherman at Mount Pleasant

Not really a whole lot to say about this game. Sherman totally dominated Mount Pleasant in the first half and removed all doubt to the outcome very early. The 35-7 final score could just as easily have been 70-0 had coach Gary Kinne not called off the dogs early.

The pleasing thing was the solid play by some new faces. For instance, Montrell Sommers, moving over from defense, made a great sideline catch and run from Thor Long to open the scoring. After that, the Bearcats had their way with the Tigers until the starters were pulled with four minutes to go in the second quarter.

Surprisingly, the Bearcats only had 230 yards of offense. But that’s misleading for two reasons: 1. They amassed most of that in the first 20 minutes of the game; and 2. They played with a short field during that span, starting four scoring drives in Mount Pleasant territory.

The Bearcats got four rushing touchdowns from Zac Whitfield, but once again it was the passing that brought Sherman its most success moving the ball: 157 through the air and only 73 on the ground.

As much as the coaches talk about being balanced and promoting the run game, let’s face it, it appears the Bearcats are a passing team. Only once this year, against Little Elm, has the ground game led the way for the Bearcats.

There’s no need to be pretending to be something when they ain't! Next thing you know, there’ll be cats barking like dogs ... horses wearing people clothes ... babies driving vehicles!

All kidding aside, Whitfield is a great running back and the offensive line is starting to come together. And a good running game keeps the other team’s offense off the field and makes a mismatch get over with a whole lot faster.

Once the run develops into as equally potent a weapon as Thor Long’s arm — and this could happen any time — then watch out for Sherman.

Winning cures all!! Were all of you people on this blog last summer? For anyone to feel that the Sherman program is moving forward because of the awesome, positive support of the fans is delusional! The program moved forward because of many talented athletes and one extraordinary quarterback. It moved forward DESPITE the Kinne and Hambrick bashing all last summer, not because of any overwhelming fan support. People only jump on the bandwagon when you are winning. When you don't win, fans fail to realize that perhaps you have a class come through the program that isn't as talented. As in Denison, the coach falls from the pedestal of "Coach of the Year" in district, and suddenly is thought to have lost all ability to coach? That's what we see "to the north." I've lived in Sherman and been a Cat fan all of my life, and I can assure you of one fact. The minute the Bearcat team doesn't succeed, everyone will be calling for Kinne and Company to pack their bags. They will be on these blogs and back to bashing the coaches-- just like the Denison fans. Quit pattng yourselves on the back, because most of you weren't supporting the coaches last summer.

I was giving you the benefit of the doubt, but heck that makes it even worse this year doesn't it? You and your boy Jacketmaster just cruise around all the websites to make sure nobody is disrespecting the Jackets huh? You noticed I capitalized Jackets, but if you go 0-10 I may not be able to anymore.

As usual, you have no idea what you are talking about. Every time Denison had a sizeable lead last year, the starters came out of the game. That is, of course, unless you played a team like McKinney that could score points so quickly.

Get a life! If this is all you have to write about, all you are doing is showing your TOTAL lack of football knowledge. The Cats are averaging about 45 points a game, playing lots of different players, and getting valuable game experience for a lot of next years starters. For your information its not about how many catches the receivers get, or how many tds they make, or how many yards per catch they have. Its about winning games and the Cats are doing quite a good job at that. You need to go to the public library and look for a book. Its titled Beginners Guide to Understanding Football. Do all Bearcat fans a favor and read it before you decide to blog again.

Other than our facilities I love the direction of our programs. The next time there is a problem and sooner or later there will be,stay behind the program and be supportive and positive and we will continue to move forward. For what not to do look north.

Don't know what you are complaining about. Maybe you should educate yourself about the game of football. Or better yet put your yellow and black t-shirt back on and wait till next year.

Do everyone a favor and stay home. I agree with everyone else, this is how you build a program and keep your starters healthy for the next weeks game. You have to play your 2nd and 3rd string when you can in order to get them experience for the next year and to keep them engaged this year. Hopefully, you will continue to watch and read about football, so the next time you open your mouth something intelligent will come out...until then....

Just what planet are you from???? Sherman was ahead of MP 35-0 at half. There's no reason to "run it up" on a team so obviously outmanned. A lot of subs got to play, and they can all use the experience. The only thing in your "post" that makes any sense at all is "that our JV could have beat MP" At least you got something right. Your knowlege of football(or lack of any) seems to be underwhelming, to say the least.

Been there, done that

This is how you build a program. If you get a sizable lead then you play your younger kids so they will be ready for next year(see Denison last year and this year). This is not about individuals, but about the team. How in the world can you be unhappy about what is going on with the Sherman program right now?

Disgruntled,
What would you have liked the coaches to do exactly? Had any of the starters gotten hurt you would be on here asking why, in a blow out, they were still on the field. Look, they scored seven less points than they did against HP, and the defense played well. AND, everyone got to play. That type of experience can be invaluable.
How anyone could be upset with a W this dominant it beyond my comprehension.
Way to think outside the box?

The old saying some people will never be happy is possibly directed at you. Save your money and stay home!

Why havent we seen this fast moving High Powered Offense since Highland Park?
Kinne, I hope this stuff youre pulling on our receivers doesnt come back to bite us in the bottom!
The play calling has been terrible in the last few games, terrible.
I think our JV could have beat Mt. Pleasant.
