Ruiz Foods, which makes numerous products in its Denison facility, has recalled one flavor of retail Tornados because of concerns about potential salmonella exposure.

The company is one of several affected by the recall of hydrolyzed vegetable protein made by Las Vegas-based Basic Food Flavors Inc.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, there has been no illnesses reported relating to this recall.

A company spokesperson said the recall represents more than 115,000 pounds of product but only a fraction of a percent of the products manufactured by Ruiz Foods.

The recall only affects the retail 3-count Ranchero Beef & Cheese flavor of Tornados with a best if used by date of: 12/23/2010, 01/23/2011, 01/28/2011, 01/30/2011, 01/31/2011 or 02/01/2011.

Additional, more than 100 other product have been recalled because of the contaminated HVP, including McCormick dip and gravy mixes. For a complete list of recalled products visit www.foodsafety.gov.

Also, anyone affected by the recalled Ranchero Beef & Cheese Tornados, may receive either a replacement coupon or a refund of the purchase price. Ruiz Foods requests that consumers trash affected products and call the consumer line at 1-800-772-6474 or 1-800-SPANISH, 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. Monday - Friday.
