Reports of tornado at Grayson County airport

Emergency workers responded to an unconfirmed report of a tornado near the North Texas Regional Airport around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Officials talking over the radio gave the order to sound the sirens at the north end of the airport at 12:32. Workers talking over the radio gave reported power lines down at the airport and Grayson County College.

Reports are still unconfirmed, but individuals should monitor the weather and seek shelter if they hear sirens.

At 12:41 the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Grayson County area. Very heavy rain and wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour are likely with the storm.

Storm : 9/2/2010
Guess you should not make judgement unless you were in the immediate area. Experienced it myself, and even if it was not a tornado, debris can fly threw windows/doors etc. and cause injury/damage. I have lived in this area all my life, am not scared of storms, but it was dangerous out here yesterday.

RE: tornado : 9/1/2010
This is case of some high straight line winds that caused minor damage.
The utility pole that leaned into the building was probably weak at the base due to age / wood rot and finally tipped over.
A tornado will have a defined debris footprint... in opposite directions.
Just another false alarm!

Doubtful : 9/1/2010
I doubt it was a tornado. Straight line winds blowing dust and debris around more than likely. I saw something similar to this on 8/23.
