Master Gardners planting schedule
Grayson County Master Gardeners are collaborating to present weekly the best information to help local gardeners know what to watch for in the garden.
This week in your garden
* Fertilize roses, pansies and bulbs that are finished blooming, but don't fertilize your lawn yet, its still a few weeks early.
* Apply pre-emergent -- chemical or organic -- to your lawn now and keep the weed seeds from germinating. That means less weeds in the summer. Make sure you water it in.
* Watch out for pests -- aphids and borers on fruit trees, and scale on shrubs. Contact the Master Gardeners or your local nursery to see how to get rid of your pests.
* Protect all your cold, tender plants from frost or freeze.
* Plant or transplant roses, fruit and ornamental trees. Also now is an excellent time to plant snapdragons, dianthus, alyssum and petunias. Protect them if it freezes.
* Divide late summer and fall blooming perennials.
