A photo depicting Anna roads with new restaurant locations have been making the rounds of social media. The logos of Panda Express, Starbucks and Whataburger can be seen in marked lots just off Highway 75. City officials, however, said these companies have no current plans to build in those locations.

“I believe that this photo is marketing material that was produced by Chief Partners, the owners of that portion of land,” Crist said. “And to date, all of the out parcels that you see that were highlighted in the photo — a Panda Express, Starbucks, Whataburger, a strip center — none of those have project plans with the city and none of those, with the exception of the potential for that strip center, there hasn’t been any engagement with the planning department.”

According to Chief Partners’ website, they are a Dallas-based real estate business that has properties that include retail, office, industrial, medical offices and multifamily properties.

“Chief Partners L.P. was founded in 2007 by Bill Vanderstraaten in partnership with Trevor Rees-Jones to serve as the commercial real estate investment arm of the Rees-Jones family office,” their website says.

“We think that Chief Partners has spoken with Whataburger,” Mayor Crist said. “So, there might be something going between those two companies but none of them, neither of them have approached the planning department.”

The Tribune reached out to Chief Partners about their development plans but has not received a response. Crist said so far there has been no work between Whataburger and the city, and citizens should not plan on the business coming to Anna at this point.

Crist also said the planning department did speak with Panda Express but no plans have been made.

“The only plans that we’re aware of, that the city is participating in, is the potential for that strip center just right adjacent to 455,” he said.

It’s unknown what tenants if any have signed leases within that potential strip center. Crist said if residents have a question about what developments have made plans to build in Anna, they should check with the city’s planning department.

“There are a lot of rumors that get spread about developments that are happening or could be happening, or plan to happen in Anna,” he said.
