Officer Don Mewbourn of the Collin College Police Department received a commendation for exemplary service in the line of duty from the college’s Board of Trustees at their March 28 meeting. Officer Mewbourn was recently dispatched to attend to a medical emergency, and his swift action and CPR skills may have saved a student’s life.

When Officer Mewbourn arrived at the scene an unconscious student was not breathing and did not exhibit a heartbeat. Officer Mewbourn began performing CPR. He stayed with the student until emergency medical services arrived and administered a medication which helped the student regain consciousness.

The commendation was presented to Officer Mewbourn by board chairman and founding trustee Bob Collins and District President Neil Matkin.

“It is an honor to recognize Officer Mewbourn,” Matkin said. “His rapid response and exceptional skill in a time of dire crisis are commendable. We have an extraordinary police force at Collin College, and this is yet another example of how employees at our institution make students our top priority.”
