The Lady Coyotes fell to Princeton in soccer, 4-2, on Monday night in Greenville.
At the end of the first half the score was 0-0 as both teams struggled to get accustomed to the cold. Anna had several scoring opportunites by Jessie Thomas and Itzea Naranjo, but the Lady Coyotes were unable to convert.
Princeton was able to get on the board first to go ahead of the Lady Coyotes 1-0.
Princeton found the net again on two more occasions and held a strong 3-0 lead.
The Lady Coyotes battled back when Emily Haywood and Jessie Thomas displayed some nice passing with Haywood finding Thomas at the back post for an easy goal.
Minutes later Anna gained a free kick from outside the arc, and Itzea Naranjo played it into the penalty area; Thomas collected it and buried it past the Greenville keeper.
Anna pushed forward trying to find the equalizer and was caught off-guard, giving up the fourth Princeton goal and cutting short Anna's comeback.
Anna coach Manny Avila said his team played hard.
"We played well, but just could not capitalize on our chances," he said. "The girls were frustrated because they knew they could beat that team tonight. We see what we need to work on, and will correct it going into next week.
"I'm glad to see that we kept fighting, and even to the end we knew we were still in this match. Games like this show we are improving and give us confidence to know we can win going forward."
