With two seniors on the bench with injuries and their lead scorer slowed with an injury, a very young Lady Coyote team struggled on the road this week – falling on Friday against Bonham and at Commerce on Tuesday. Anna will take on Van Alstyne at home on Friday and will have a bye next Tuesday before they wrap up their regular season play.

Commerce 58, Anna 10

Commerce took advantage of the shorthanded, young Lady Coyotes on Tuesday night playing them tough on defense and not allowing Anna to score many points. Commerce came out tough in the opening quarter, shutting out Anna and went on to take the game 58-10. Denisha Hampton led the Anna offense with five points, going 2-for-8 from the floor. Abby Besco added three points for the Lady Coyotes, all from the free throw line and Destene Rodriguez scored two. Anna got on the board in the second quarter, scoring three points, and then scored seven in the third but that was all the offense they would be able to produce. Whitney Love and Besco each finished the game with seven rebounds, Besco led the team with two blocks on defense and Rodriguez finished the game with three steals.

Bonham 52, Anna 28

Anna stayed close in the early minutes of their game against Bonham on Friday night – but playing shorthanded and then losing Deianaira Moreno to an in game injury hurt the Lady Coyotes offensive production and the Lady Warriors stole the 52-28 win on Anna’s home court. Denisha Hampton helped the Lady Coyotes stay close in the first quarter, scoring the first Anna points. Moreno hit a shot to give Anna the lead and then hit two more buckets. Early in the second quarter, Moreno hit another shot – knotting up the game at 13. Alicia Olvera pulled down a rebound and hit the put back and Abby Besco hit a shot later in the period but at the end of the first half Bonham was able to jump ahead by 11. Despite not finishing the game, Moreno was the leading scorer for the Lady Coyotes with 11 points. Olvera finished the game with five points and Whitney Love added four for Anna. Anna scored just two points in the third quarter, unable to put anything together to cut into the deficit they faced. Love and Breanna Dilldine each hit shots in the fourth quarter but Bonham had their best offensive period of the night to close out the game and get the 24-point win. Other Anna scorers included: Breeanna Dillldine 3, Abby Besco 2, Denisha Hampton 2 and Destene Rodriguez 1.
