Cross Country Athletes Honored
From Staff Reports
For the first time in the history of Lon Morris College, both the men's and women's cross country programs were honored with Academic All-American athletes. The student's hard work in the classroom brought the honor of Academic All-American to the College, giving the young program a high standing among other two year colleges.
"This is something that we want to always strive for," Kent Willis, head coach, said. "If our student-athletes will work hard in the classroom then they are setting themselves up for success."
Chad Nelson and Timo Gronlund led the way both earning a 4.0 GPA. Chad Nelson is a freshman from Buffalo, TX and Timo Gronlund is a freshman from Finland.
The efforts of Nelson and Gronlund led LMC to having the second highest team GPA in the nation. Butler County Community College had the highest with a 3.788. The LMC men were not too far behind with a team GPA of 3.712.
Rachel Nesloney led the charge for the women with a GPA of 3.8. The LMC women had the 13th highest GPA in the nation as a team.
A total of five men and five women from Lon Morris made the list. Individuals that received academic honors for the women's team included: Sharne Glover, freshman from Cedar Hill, Texas; Amisha Standley, freshman from Huntington, Texas; Teddie Hughes, freshman from Anna, Texas; Rachel Nesloney, freshman from Ben Wheeler, Texas; and Estefani Castro, freshman from Oakwood, Texas. Individuals that received academic honors for the men's team included: Chad Nelson, freshman from Buffalo, Texas; Timo Gronlund, freshman from Finland; Scottie Agnew, freshman from Longview, Texas; Steven Marshall, freshman from Gladewater, Texas; and LaQuadium Foreman, freshman from Palestine, Texas.
"We are very proud of all of our student-athletes," Dr. Miles McCall, President of LMC said. "Our cross country programs are excellent examples of what Lon Morris has to offer students."
The NJCAA Track and Cross-Country Coaches Association honor the top academic teams and athletes each season.
