Anna
finished a tough week of play, falling to district leader Bonham at
home on Friday night and then was just edged out in Commerce on Tuesday.
Anna will be looking to rebound and get back in the win column when
they take on Van Alstyne this Friday.
Commerce 61, Anna 57
A
17-point performance by Cory Meaders was not enough to hold off a
fourth quarter rally by Commerce on Tuesday night and the Tigers stole
the game late with a 61-57 win on their home court. Meaders was one of
two Coyotes in double figures, Alec Thompson finished the game with 10
points.
Anna got off to a fast start, scoring 18 points in the
opening quarter to jump ahead by seven. Commerce was able to chip away
at that lead in the second and third quarters, reducing their deficit to
just two going into the final period.
Ten different Anna players
contributed to the offensive production for the Coyotes, with Hunter
Kendall chipping in eight and CJ Wright finishing the game with five.
Commerce
really got their offense moving in the fourth quarter, scoring a game
high 20 in the period to complete the rally and knock off the Coyotes.
Other Anna scorers included: Travis Argue 4, Austin Conway 3, Jacob
Arvin 3, Jake Gililland 3, Tyler Elliott 2 and Wes Jones 2.

Bonham 59, Anna 49
Throughout
the first half of the game, Bonham and Anna fought back and fourth,
with several lead changes keeping either team from breaking away but a
third quarter surge by the Warriors gave Bonham the advantage needed to
come away with a 59-49 road win on Friday.
Anna trailed by five
early in the contest when CJ Wright connected on a jumper in the paint
to cut the lead to three. Before the end of the first quarter a bucket
by #21 again cut the Bonham lead to three and the period ended with Anna
trailing 10-13.
Scores from Wright and Jake Gililland helped the
Coyotes knot up the game in the second quarter and a jumper by Arvin
gave Anna a 16-14 advantage and forced Bonham to take a time out. The
Warriors closed out the quarter on a 5-1 run to take a two-point lead
into the locker room at halftime.
The third quarter belonged to
Bonham in this one, who scored six points in the first ninety seconds of
the second half to extend their lead and midway through the third they
had built a 11-point advantage that forced Anna to take a timeout. The
Warriors finished the quarter with an 11-3 run put the Coyotes in a hole
they would not be able to recover from.
Anna was able to close
the gap some in the final quarter, scoring a game best 26 in the period
but it was not enough to get the win as Bonham got the steal in Anna.
