Athletes, both male and female, from Howe and Van Alstyne, as well as several other towns around the area, traveled to Anna on Jan. 7 for the Anna Invitational Powerlifting Meet. Howe showed with six lifters - three boys and three girls - and finished in the top 10 of their respective weight classes. Van Alstyne traveled with two girl powerlifters who finished in the top six of their respective weight classes.

The meet was considered a successful event with good support from volunteers and coordinators.

Van Alstyne is scheduled to host a powerlifting meet on Feb. 11 at Van Alstyne High School.
