Melissa to Buy Fire Truck

By Rodney Hays

Staff Writer

The Melissa City Council approved the purchase of a new fire truck for the fire department during Tuesday night's regular meeting.

The council approved a resolution approving the purchase of a 2009 Dodge 3500 4x4, custom skid and related equipment for the fire department.

About nine months ago, the fire department lost a brush truck in an accident. The truck was totaled.

The city received a grant from the Texas Forestry Service for a new truck, and those funds will be used for the purchase, according to City Administrator Jason Little.

In other business:

The council approved a resolution accepting Phase II of the Throckmorton Creek/Trinity River Sewer Interceptor Project as complete.

The city received funding for the project from the Texas Water Development Board. As the development board closes out projects, it requires entities to "accept" the project, Little said.

The council appointed Jennifer McClelland to the Melissa Public Library Advisory Board.

The council's next regular meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 9.

The deadline for candidates to file paperwork to seek one of the council's three available seats in the May 8 city election is 5 p.m. Monday, March 8.
