Melissa Police create tip line

The Melissa Police Department tip line is now active and is for Melissa residents to use for non-emergency situations. The phone number is 972-838-2075 and callers are able to leave a message for the police to follow up on their tip. This line is not for emergencies and, in the event of an emergency or when suspicious activity or a crime is in progress, residents should call 9-1-1 immediately. “We are hoping that through the creation of this tip line, citizens will feel they can share information they have with the police and still remain anonymous if they choose to do so,” Captain Kyle Babcock said. “With this tip line, they can place a call and leave a voicemail that will go directly to the police department. Our hope is that those who have information on criminal activity will be more likely to provide us that information if they are reluctant to do so in person or in a direct phone conversation with police.”

Callers may remain anonymous; however, if a caller wishes to be contacted at a later time, they may include a name and telephone number so an officer may contact them directly. When phoning the tip line, callers should provide the following information:– The type of incident or activity to which you are calling about – Where and when the activity occurs, information on the person(s) committing the offense – As many details about the incident/activity as possible

For questions on this tip line or anything else, contact the Melissa Police Department at 972-838-2033.
