Ask the Chief 082610 Free Child ID Cards
Ask the Chief of the Anna Police: A weekly column allowing readers access to useful information about law enforcement issues in the Anna area.
This column is the personal opinion of Kenny Jenks and is based on his 29+ years of policing experience. It is not necessarily the official opinion of the City of Anna or the Anna Police Department. If you wish to email, your name and address should be in the correspondence. I will edit that information before sending it to print.
Hello Readers,
I receive between 75 and 100 emails each week from persons who would like to converse about the activities of the police in Anna and surrounding areas. I can't respond to or print all of them, but I do read them!
Margaret from Oak Hollow sent the following comment:
Dear Chief,
I wanted to drop you a note to tell you how grateful I am to your department to offer us the free ID card for my two children. Your staff was very friendly and professional and even though they had some computer issues while I was there, they worked through it. Some of my friends were wondering if you would be offering this service again in the near future. Thanks again and may God bless our police officers.
Our Child ID event was a great success, Margaret, and I am very happy that we were able to get you the ID cards for your children. We had a huge turnout and I believe that some people left without getting the IDs due to the crowd.
If you are one of the people that did not get IDs for your children, please call us at 972-924-2848 and set up an appointment between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. We will try our best to get you in here and provide you with a child ID card.
I want to thank the following Anna businesses for their sponsorship: Brookshire's, Grandy's, Joe's Italian Bistro, Mama Mia's, My Estrella and Sonic. Please patronize these businesses to show your thanks for their support.
As we near the end of the first week of school in 2010, do your part to make our school zones safe. Please pay close attention to the entire area surrounding the road when traveling near the schools. In particular, "concentrate on the drive" during school zone hours. As a reminder, no cell phone usage in the school zones is allowed and the school zone speed limits are limits, not recommendations. I hope you have a great school year!
Outdoor Storm Sirens Tested (weather permitting): First Wednesday of the month at noon.
Phone numbers: Emergency? Dial 911. To have a police officer sent to you in a non-emergency, call 972-547-5350. During normal business hours, the APD number is 972-924-2848.
