Ask the Chief 030410
Ask the Chief of the Anna Police: A weekly column allowing readers access to useful information about law enforcement issues in the Anna area.
This column is the personal opinion of Kenny Jenks and is based on his 28 years of policing experience. It is not necessarily the official opinion of the City of Anna or the Anna Police Department. If you wish to email, your name and address should be in the correspondence. I will edit that information before sending it to print.
Dear Readers,
The National Public Safety campaign known as "Click it or Ticket" is in full swing and law enforcement officers from across the country will be engaged in seat belt enforcement. Please wear your seat belt every time you get in your car, even if it is just to go around the block. Make it a habit!
This week's emails included this one from Jenna in Anna:
Q: i would like to know why Anna police gave my husband a hard time for supposedly going thur a stop sign. first of all it was 8 @ nite, dark, no traffic (that area has no traffic that time of nite just the way it is) we have a 5 speed so to shift into 1st we have to stop, they said we rolled thur. they made him get out of the car, touch his nose and all that other stuff. make him take his glasses off and walk the line on a slope. he said no i won't, you do that. so the officer made him move into the road more, he passed everything it was totally harassment. still gave him a ticket not a warning. He got over a $200 ticket. my husband doesn't get tickets and is a good driver. what is the deal.At the truck stops on 75. every car nearly runs the stop sign. why are they not there taking care of business, seems to me thats where they need to be, not hiding in darkness sitting waiting for someone to come along, must be very boring with nothing to do but sit and wait. Then at the truck stop people are running stop signs all nite long. To me something is wrong here. A very disappointed tax payer and citizen. I have lived here almost 30 years. Not happy with the police department.
My normal readers know that anonymous emails generally do not get a response or make it to print. This one makes it to print for your reading enjoyment but I am at a loss for words in a response. I will let you, the readers, formulate your own responses. Send them to me if you would like: kjenks@annatexas.gov.
Q: Chief Jenks I have a problem with CB broadcasts coming through my TV and radio. Don't CB radio operators have to shield their equipment? What can be done about this?
DN
DN,
Complaints against radio operators are outside of our purview. Try the FCC @ http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm.
