Rural Affairs Agency Awards $350,000 Grant to Anna

The Texas Department of Rural Affairs (TDRA) presented an oversized. ceremonial check to local officials in the City of Anna to recognize the community for securing a Brant from the asencys Texas Community Development Block Grant (TxCDBG) program. J\gency staff presented the check on August 11, 2010 at Anna City Hall.

The City of Anna will use its $350,000 grant to replace dilapidc:lted water lines in the older section., of town with 7,272 linear feet ofa-Inch water line to prevent serious water loss. The Clty will also install 15 fire hydrants and make street and drlvewav repairs on West r:ifth, South Powell, Cunningham. Geneveva. White, and South RiBtdns streets.
The agency awarded $5,504,,827 to 16 North Central TeK3s area communities, including Anna, Aurora, Bloomins Grove, Dawson, Garrett, Graford, Greenville. Hood County, Kemp, Lipar', tone Oak, Newl'rk, Parker County, Pelican Bay, Hunt County and Rhome. TORA awarded more than $42 million to rural communities in Texas for the 2010 funding cycle.

The grants come from the Texas Community Development Block Grant progr~rn, the largest COBG program (n the nation. R.ural cities with populations less than SO,ooO and counties that have t1 non~ metropolitan population under 200,000 and cue not eligible for direcL runding from HUD may apply for the agency's TxCDBG program. This program serves approxlmatelv 1,017 eligible rural communities, 245 rural counties, and provides services to over 375,000 low· to moderate-incom~ beneficiaries each year.
