Downs worked out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth.
VA 3, Blue Ridge 0
Moving to bracket play on Friday, the Lady Panthers were in the Silver Bracket and they opened with a 3-0 win over Blue Ridge. Hunter Offill limited the Lady Tigers to just two hits and Van Alstyne got maximum mileage out of just three hits on the offensive side.
In the second inning, Hunter Offill drew a one-out walk and with two away, Shelby Downs reached on a Blue Ridge error that moved Offill to second. Both runners scored on a two-RBI single by Olivia Hall, staking the Lady Panthers to the 2-0 lead.
The Lady Panthers got two runners on base in the third but couldn't score. In the fourth Chelsea Colunga singled to open the inning and with one out Hall reached on another Blue Ridge miscue. Both runners moved up on a passed ball and Rachel Moya's sacrifice fly brought home Colunga with the final Van Alstyne run.
VA 14, Whitesboro 2
The Lady Panthers scored in each of the three innings of a 14-2 win over Whitesboro to take the Silver Bracket Championship of the tournament.
Van Alstyne scored three in the first on hits by Sam Case, Chandler Henson and Hunter Offill. The Lady Panthers added five runs in the second as Aubrey Burts led off the inning by being hit with a pitch. Brooke Dowtin bunted Burts to second and she scored on a triple by Cassie Deaver. Case singled driving in her second run of the game as Deaver scored and Case scored later on a Whitesboro error that put Henson on base. Henson scored on another Whitesboro error. After a walk to Hunter Offill, she would be brought home by an RBI single by Olivia Hall.
Van Alstyne finished it off in the third, scoring six runs to earn the win. A Deaver single and a walk to Case opened the inning and Deaver scored on another Whitesboro error. Case came home on a double by Bailey Offill and after Henson walked, both runners scored on a fielding miscue on a ball hit by Hunter Offill. Olivia Hall walked and both Offill and Hall scored when Whitesboro misplayed a ball hit to right field by Rachel Moya.
Whitesboro scored two runs in the bottom of the third but it was much too little and too late as Van Alstyne comes away with the Silver Bracket Championship trophy.
Chandler Henson was named to the 2010 All-Tournament team.
