Lady Cardinals swoop past Cooper; remain perfect

The Lady Cards improved to 7-0 in district play with a win over Cooper at home on Tuesday night. After a bye on Friday night, Melissa will not have another break for a while as it continues its quest for a district title. This week, the Lady Cardinals will play at Rivercrest on Friday and play host to Caddo Mills on Tuesday.

Melissa 49, Cooper 31

Melissa used a strong second quarter to get past Cooper on Tuesday night to get their 23rd win of the season. Katie Webb was the leading scorer for Melissa, finishing the game with 12 points and Megan Conlin added 10.

At the end of the first quarter, the game was knotted up at seven but Melissa used a 15-6 second quarter to take a lead they would never give up. Shelby Hill helped spark the Melissa offense, scoring nine and sophomore Whitney Taylor finished with eight points.

The third quarter was close - and defensive - but Melissa put the game away with 19 points in the fourth to get the 18-point victory. Other Melissa scorers included: Emily Bates 6, Haley Hill 3 and Kambri Gabel 1.
