Coyotes Earn 2 District Wins

The Anna Coyotes defeated Paris North Lamar at home Tuesday night, 52-38, after a 54-37 road win Friday over Bonham.

North Lamar took a 12-11 lead after the first period Tuesday night, but it was all Coyote basketball from there.

The Coyotes outscored the Panthers in each of the final three quarters for the 52-38 victory.

Anna was lead by Andrew Smith, who had a huge game. Smith scored 15 points and added 14 rebounds and Jordan Covey had 13 points and five rebounds.

"Tonight we struggled from the field, but our guys did a good job getting to the free-throw line," Anna coach Todd McCormick said. "We had some key defensive plays."

Several other players made significant contributions, including Andre Gibbs with 12 points and four assists and Ian Reutelhuber with eight points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Matthew Foster and Cory Meaders each chipped in two points and added several rebounds.

Gibbs led the team with 13 points in Friday's win over Bonham.

Andrew Smith added 11 points, three rebounds and two blocks. Bonham stayed close early, but the Coyotes set the tone in the second period. Anna outscored Bonham 14-2 in the second quarter and went in the halftime ahead 23-10.

Bonham battled to stay close in the second half, but the Coyotes added to their lead and finished off another district win.

"We were a little sluggish in the first quarter, but I felt our defensive intensity was present throughout the game," McCormick said. "It was a big win on the road in Bonham."

The Coyotes got seven points apiece from Ian Reutelhuber and Jordan Covey, six from Cory Meaders, four from Matthew Foster., three from Chris Heath and two from Mark Jackson.

The junior varsity boys defeated Paris North Lamar on Tuesday, 48-38.

The Coyotes were led by Matt Williams with 11 points and Tyler Elliott with eight.

"We got better in several areas tonight," coach Ted Mackey said. "I was pleased with our effort."

Anna will continue district play in Van Alstyne tomorrow night.
