Ask the Chief 111209
Ask the Chief of the Anna Police: A weekly column allowing readers access to useful information about law enforcement issues in the Anna area.
Each week the chief receives requests for information from people in the Anna area. This column is the personal opinion of Kenny Jenks and is based on his 28+ years of policing experience. It is not necessarily the official opinion of the City of Anna or the Anna Police Department.
Dear Chief Jenks,
I want to thank your officers for responding to my call for help last week. They came out to Highway 75 when I had a flat tire. We found that my spare tire was flat and one of them took me to the service station to get air and then back. They even put my tire on for me. I have always heard that officers are selfless, and I saw it firsthand in your lovely little city. Thanks again.
Gail, Frisco
Glad we could help, Gail, and thank you for the email.
Readers: Every once in a while an incident happens that reminds me that we need to show gratitude to our officers for what they do. One such incident happened this week when Anna officers responded to a disturbance call in the area of U.S. 75 and F.M. 455. One of the "disturbers" was highly intoxicated and was arrested. On the way to the jail, the suspect began to vomit in the back seat of the squad car. Not uncommon for the typical drunk arrestee, right? But then the suspect decided that he should spit the vomit onto the officer repeatedly through the partition separating the back seat from the front seat. The offender's conduct created a separate criminal offense for which he will have to answer, but no human being should have to put up with this type of conduct from another person. But the Anna officer did.
Remember them in your prayers. These are the good guys standing up for us, the law-abiding majority, and they do so at night, on weekends, on holidays, and as Gail from Frisco described above, are "selfless."
I gladly use this column to thank the men and women who wear the uniform and carry the badge. I want to particularly thank that small group of dedicated individuals we are fortunate to have here in Anna. They really are the thin blue line!
